The second day started off with a bike ride to the train station Den Haag NOI. Twenty minutes later Jos and I arrived at Rotterdam Central Station, where we could admire the 57 meter long stairs that linked the "Stationsplein" to 'het Groot Handelsgebouw'. Unfortunately, we could not climb the stairs due to lack of time. We had an appointment: a meeting with a representative from the Democratic Republic of Congo about a possible RVO programme with female entrepreneurs from Congo to the Netherlands. After that, we had to rush back to The Hague, for another appointment in the RVO building. Finances, budgets, and expenditures, those were the topics. After this morning of conversations and meetings, I was introduced to Bregje, who is a very enthusiastic woman. Jos, Bregje and I had a lunch at the canteen.
Bregje directly put me to work: exciting! She still had a project she was working on, but she didn't have enough time to continue with it, so I could do it. In August, during the week of the Gay Pride, a few selected LGBTI activists would come to the Netherlands. This is a yearly programme, as the promotion of LGBTI tolerance is considered very important. Dutch Ambassies from different countries had recommended someone to represent that specific country, and these possible representatives had to hand in a CV along with a motivational letter. My task was to write down the names of these possible representatives and write a short summary of what their involvement in the LGBTI movement was and why they wanted to participate in the programme. So there I was, in an office in the Hague, reading CVs and letters from people across Eastern Europe mainly and writing a summary. They were all great, inspirational people, and I am glad that I am not the one deciding who of them will be selected for the programme. Thursday I will continue this task.
I've learned a lot from this day and I now know how a business day looks like in an international business. Tomorrow, I will again join the DVP on 'Food Security and Agriculture' and we will visit Port Rotterdam and Maasvlakte 2. I am very excited for that, even though my alarm will be going off at 6:00.
